Since 1994, swimming and water safety has been a statutory element of the national curriculum for Physical Activity in England. Swimming is the only sport to be included within the national curriculum physical education programme of study.

ALL PRIMARY SCHOOLS MUST PROVIDE SWIMMING AND WATER SAFETY LESSONS IN EITHER KEY STAGE 1 OR 2.

Each pupil is required to ideally:

  • Perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations

  • Swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25m

  • Use a range of strokes effectively, including front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke

How does it work?

What we provide

  • Filtered, heated pool at your school

  • Qualified swimming teachers & Lifeguards (5.5 hours per day)

  • Insurance

  • FULL installation and takedown

Our pool is 32 x 16 ft - 55,000 litres - filtered - heated between 26-32 degrees and covered with a secure marquee.

The pool will be installed 3 days before lessons to ensure quality, filtration and temperature checks have all been undertaken and are correct.

The normal ratio is 12/2. During COVID-19 restrictions: 9/2

FAQ’s

Are there any additional costs?

We have calculated that on average the water and electricity costs for 2 weeks is £400. The only other additional cost is to install an outdoor electrical point. This is obviously a one-off and would be incurred for the first time you have the pool only.

What are your health and safety protocols?

During the school day, a member of our team will be at the pool at all times, even when the pool is not in use. When the school is closed, the marquee will be locked and the ladder to gain access to the pool is removed.

Do we need a School risk assessment?

Sports Coaching Group will provide and have any risk assessments you will need.

What Insurance does the School need?

NONE. Everything is covered under Sports Coaching Group insurance policies.

What are the changing protocols?

All schools are different, most schools can find a secure area for children to get changed in. We suggest that if space is at a premium, girls and boys can be taught at different times, so that the same space can be used. If there is no suitable space inside the school, we can provide an extra marquee at a small additional cost.

What is a typical timetable?

The timetable will be completely up to the School. We advise 30 minutes intense lessons. Some Schools target specific year groups and some prefer to get all year groups some time.

RECENT POOLS TO SCHOOLS NEWS

We are currently running the busiest pools to schools programme so far with all of our pools out in use across Cheshire!

What our most recent school said about the programme:

“The setting up of the pool was carried out efficiently by the team. Our pupils received intensive lessons for two weeks and the progress they made was clear to see. Pupils gained confidence much quicker than if they had been receiving weekly lessons. We were also able to target non- swimmers in Y5 and 6. Having the pool on-site means that precious learning time isn’t wasted through travelling to and from a public pool. We have already booked for next year.” Headteacher at Gainsborough Primary
